In 1959, in a rural community just outside of Memphis, African Americans began a grassroots movement to secure the basic rights of citizenship. Fayette County became one of the first areas in the rural South where blacks began to challenge the economic, political and psychological obstacles they faced. Freedom's Front Line: Fayette County, Tennessee is a video documentary produced in 2006 to highlight the history of the civil rights movement.
